The only 5 jobs where women earn more than men

While there's much to celebrate on International Women's Day, women are still lagging behind men when it comes to wages — especially in the US.

We sorted through 2015 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which compares the median weekly earnings of men and women across several hundred professions in the US, to find the jobs where women out-earn men.

It turns out there are only five.

Here, we've highlighted the median weekly earnings (before tax), from the BLS, as well as the median annual earnings (determined by multiplying weekly earnings by 52).

We also calculated the earnings ratio, which is the ratio of female to male median earnings expressed as a percentage. In 2015, among full-time workers, women were paid 81% as much as men — median weekly earnings were $726 per week for women, compared to $895 per week for men. These are the only five jobs where the earnings ratio is greater than 100%:

Bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks

What they do: Bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks produce financial records for organizations. They record financial transactions, update statements, and check financial records for accuracy.

Women earn: $692/week ($35,984/year)

Men earn: $690/week ($35,880/year)

Earnings ratio: 100.3%

Police and sheriff's patrol officers

What they do: Police and sheriff's patrol officers maintain order and protect life and property by enforcing local, tribal, State, or Federal laws and ordinances.

Women earn: $1,009/week ($52,468/year)

Men earn: $1,001/week ($52,052/year)

Earnings ratio: 100.8%

Office clerks, general

What they do: General office clerks perform duties that may include a combination of answering telephones, bookkeeping, typing or word processing, stenography, office machine operation, and filing.

Women earn: $622/week ($32,344/year)

Men earn: $609/week ($31,668/year)

Earnings ratio: 102.1%

Data entry keyers

What they do: Data entry keyers operate data entry devices, such as a keyboard or photo composing perforator. 

Women earn: $638/week ($33,176/year)

Men earn: $589/week ($30,628/year)

Earnings ratio: 108.3%

Wholesale and retail buyers (except farm products)

What they do: Wholesale and retail buyers buy merchandise or commodities (other than farm products) for resale to consumers at the wholesale or retail level, including both durable and nondurable goods.

Women earn: $985/week ($51,220/year)

Men earn: $886/week ($46,072/year)

Earnings ratio: 111.2%
